text 18 Feb Crow is not for the birds.

When:  Wednesday night:  9:30ish to 11:30ish
Where:  The Crow, lower Queen Anne

This evening Jon and I did a little lower Queen Anne trolling.  Jon is gonna review The Great Nabob, where we went first and left quickly.

The Crow was OK.  I’d go again.  It was not that crowded, but the drinks were tasty.  I had a margarita and Jon drank Old Fashions.  We managed to get a free shot of tequila from the bartender so I’m definitely thinking this might be a decent after work place.  Good food.

I’m tired so, the ratings:

The crowd: Decent.  Mixed.  Not too hipster, but this place ain’t cheap so it attracts a certain income.
The ambiance: Decent.  I’d come here for dinner.  The menu is good - I like Betty alot and it’s the from the same owners.  Drinks are good and it’s a relaxing, trendy, hipster kind of place.
The service: Excellent.  I mean a free shot of Hornito tequila (served straight up, with an Orange slice w/cinnamon on the side - yummy)
The drinks: Awesome.  Worth the trip.
The food: Great. Jon had chicken w/asparagus.

Overall:  This might be a regular place for us.  We need to come here a few more times however.

text 4 Feb Ocho is not Enough

Wednesday, Feb 4th
9PM-ish

This evening’s sampler included the Ballard bar Ocho, which besides a comparatively pretty website, offers a popularly marginal experience.

My highlight of the evening was after ordering my first drink, the medicinal “Ten Dollar Margarita”, asking for another margarita with Hornitos - only to be told in sufficiently snooty terms (commensurable with the pricing) that Ocho did not carry Hornitos tequila.

Ok, really? Ocho, I know you’re going for a tragically boutique look-and-feel, but failing to carry a middle-tier tequila like Hornitos stretches both my patience and your credibility; particularly when your tequila “specialty cocktail” tastes like so much ass.

To cut to the chase:

The crowd: Overweight Ballard women and hippie 20-something web designers.
The ambiance: Decent, rating an acceptable date night scenario.
The service: Acceptable, if somewhat self-impressed.
The drinks: Sub-average and overpriced.
The food: Not sampled.

text 4 Feb The People and the Point

I’ll follow up on Brian’s post a little.

We are two guys who live in Seattle. Mourning the demise of our beloved McLeod Residence, the goal of this blog is to recount our search for the perfect regular joint - a default bar we can rely on regardless of the day of the week.

Our criteria so far are a list of negatives; not too douchey, not populated exclusively by fat people dressed in wool.
